EVERGREEN's 3D scanning services

What is 3D Scanning?

3D scanning is a technology that converts real-world objects into digital 3D models. You can think of it as a kind of advanced “photography” and “copying,” except that 3D scanning captures the three-dimensional spatial information of objects rather than flat images.

Its working principle is mainly based on collection measurement and optical technology. First, it emits energy (light, laser, or ultrasound, etc.) toward the object being measured, then receives the reflected signals, calculates the distance from the sensor to each point on the object’s surface, and thus determines the positional relationship of the object’s surface in three-dimensional space (X, Y, Z).

What problems can 3D scanning help you solve?

Below, I will list some practical applications of EVERGREEN3D scanning services and some actual problems we have helped our customers solve, helping them reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality.

  1. Some larger castings/forgings are prone to deformation during transportation, making it difficult to accurately align them during subsequent processing. In such cases, we can use 3D scanning to quickly obtain the actual model of the blank, then compare it with the design model to generate compensation allowances or reconstruct the reference coordinates. This eliminates the need for repeated trial cuts and scrap.

  2. Some customers only have physical parts and no drawings. For such customers, we can use 3D scanning to accurately obtain the geometric data of the parts, help customers quickly produce drawings, and optimize the parts. This can effectively shorten the product delivery cycle.

  3. When manufacturing complex parts, traditional first-piece inspection is time-consuming and labor-intensive, and offline sampling of critical processes is inefficient. In such cases, we can use 3D scanning for fast and accurate inspection, generating intuitive colour deviation reports that enable early detection of problems and prevent batch scrap.

  4. Some complex curved surfaces are difficult to measure after machining, such as impellers and mold cavities. We can use 3D scanning to easily and accurately obtain complete surface data, which can then be compared with the drawings to ensure machining accuracy.

Some advantages of 3D scanning

High Precision

3D scanning can achieve measurement accuracy at the micrometer level (0.05 mm), and the scanned 3D images are almost identical to the actual objects.

Good at Capturing Details

3D scanning can capture minute details such as indentations and textures on the surface of objects. Some devices can even record color and material details.

Data Integration and Analysis

The scanned models can be directly imported into CAD/CAM/PLM systems, supporting reverse engineering, simulation testing, and 3D printing.

Noncontact Measurement

Scan and measure without touching the surface of the object, suitable for many environments where traditional measurement methods are not feasible, such as high-temperature parts and fragile parts.
